About this book
Edith B. Ordway arranges this book as an alphabetical list of words in common use, each grouped with words of similar and opposite meaning. Her preface says it gives above five thousand leading words, with several thousand more among the synonyms and antonyms.
An entry gives the word, then words of like meaning, then Ant. followed by its opposites. Hypocrite, for example, is matched with deceiver, impostor and pretender, and set against saint and believer. Hurry has separate lists as a noun and as a verb. The preface adds that references can be multiplied by looking up a synonym or antonym, or a related noun, verb or adjective.
