About this book

Jack London wrote Tales of the Fish Patrol. A piece headed White and Yellow says San Francisco Bay is so large that often its storms are more disastrous to ocean-going craft than is the ocean itself in its violent moments. The text says that to protect the fish from this motley floating population many wise laws have been passed, and there is a fish patrol to see that these laws are enforced.

The narrator says in a loud voice, Now get aboard, four of you, indicating with fingers that four of them were to go with the narrator and the fifth was to remain by the junk. The text says the instructions of the Fish Commission were to the effect that the patrolmen should avoid complications. A halloo drifts across the water from Charley, who is searching, while a gag in the narrator's mouth prevents a reply.
