About this book
The Boy With the U.S. Miners is a book by Francis Rolt-Wheeler, presented with thirty-six illustrations. The preface says that no walk of life is more wild and adventurous than that of the questing miner, and no profession more hazardous than that of the working miner, whose every step underground is full of peril.
An old miner says he was looking after a door for most of a shift when he dropped right off asleep, and says he saw what looked like a little man made of coal holding it open for the car to pass through. A mine-owner and a prospector look at a photograph, which shows a young fellow, bearded, in the typical Australian digger's rig-out, panning gold. A suspicious steamer turns the corner of a newly made breakwater, drops her anchor and displays the flag of the Eastern Siberian Republic, at that time in the hands of the Bolsheviks.
