About this book
The Bravo is described as a tale by J. Fenimore Cooper. The preface says that the author has endeavored to give his countrymen, in this book, a picture of the social system of one of the soi-disant republics of the other hemisphere. The preface also says there has been no attempt to portray historical characters. The two gondoliers Gino and Giorgio hesitate before a residence at Venice, and Don Camillo has given no new direction.
The text has someone say that the aged man is a fisherman named Antonio, and that the Bravo hath passed towards the island of San Giorgio, and must be sought elsewhere. The text says that the Carmelite permitted himself to be conducted whither his guide pleased, and that a devious route led to the public prisons. The narrator says, "Our business now leads us to the cell of Jacopo."
