In one scene Ted, Janet, Tom and Lola try a wooden toboggan slide with a platform at the top and stairs made of small boxes. Tom and Ted go down together on sleds whose runners are greased with candle wax, and Ted calls it nifty. Janet worries that the slide is not wide enough. In another passage Uncle Toby tells the children that Trouble may have wandered down the street, mentions that a horse-drawn snowplow in Pocono has cleared the walks, and says he will ask the police and start a searching party.

Howard Roger Garis

Howard Roger Garis (1873-1962) was an American journalist, novelist and children's writer. He wrote a series of books about Uncle Wiggily Longears, an elderly rabbit, many of them illustrated by Lansing Campbell. His titles include "Uncle Wiggily and Old Mother Hubbard" and "The Curlytops on Star Island".
