About this book
The Fairy Caravan is by Beatrix Potter. In chapter VI, Xarifa the dormouse sits upon a hazel twig and stitches busily, making the gold and scarlet pocket handkerchief into a robe for Tuppenny. Tuppenny asks Xarifa who Little Mouse was, and Xarifa answers that she was just a little mouse, asked to a wedding.
The text says Paddy Pig was an important member of the circus company, playing several parts: the Learned Pig that could read, in spectacles; the Irish Pig that could dance a jig; and the Clown in spotty calico. Paddy Pig also played the Pigmy Elephant, with tusks shaped from white peeled sticks out of the hedge. The text says the Pound, or Pinfold, was a round enclosure with a high circular wall, built of cobblestones, and that Pony Billy felt that things were getting extremely serious.
