About this book
The Golden Age Cook Book is by Henrietta Latham Dwight and carries a New York date of 1898. Its dedication is to all who are striving to follow the Golden Rule, and below it stands the Bible verse in which God gives every herb bearing seed and every tree yielding fruit.
One section is a table of food composition per hundred parts, running from milk, cream, butter and cheeses to beans, lentils, potatoes, wheat, oat-meal and nuts, in columns for carbohydrates, water and other matter. The recipes include a salad of several cold boiled vegetables served in lettuce with French dressing or mayonnaise, asparagus salad and cucumber salad. The contents list further dishes such as corn pudding, curry of corn, croquettes of celeriac and salsify, kohlrabi, baked marrowfat beans, frijoles fritos, broiled mushrooms, escalloped tomatoes and spinach pudding.
