About this book
The Happy Family is a book by B. M. Bower. A passage quoted at the front says its writer has knocked about cow camps, mining camps, railroad and telegraph camps and has met “the Ananias of the cow camp.” A man named Andy says that before he came to work there he was riding for the Circle C.
Andy describes a day when he was riding alone in the Bad-lands and his horse slipped in some shale rock and went lame. A man with a megaphone was announcing that the contest was yet undecided and that Green and Roberts would ride again later in the afternoon. A passage says Jakie would have been quite overwhelmed by the many and peculiar duties of a roundup cook, except for willing service.
