About this book
The Life of Lord Byron is by John Galt. The introduction says the present task is one of considerable difficulty. The introduction says that, with regard to the man and the poet, there has been a vehement and continual controversy concerning him from the first time his name came before the public. The text says genius of every kind belongs to some innate temperament.
The writer says he is not disposed to consider the idle and reckless childhood of Byron as unfavourable to the development of his genius. Colonel Stanhope is quoted as conceiving that a fit was occasioned by over-excitement and as saying that the mind of Byron is like a volcano. The text includes the question, "Was I to anticipate friendship from one who conceived me to have charged him with falsehood?"
