About this book
The Lost Manuscript is a novel by Gustav Freytag, presented as an authorized translation from the sixteenth German edition. The motto says a noble human life continues beyond death in the minds and deeds of friends and in the thoughts and activity of the nation. Fritz Hahn confronts a schoolfellow, pushes the boy against a wall, and compels the boy to return money and take back his devil.
Fritz Hahn hears a cry, jumps into muddy water, recovers a hat and parasol, and draws a boat to shore. Ilse returns home and continues hearing dance music in her dreams, imagining strange men and women visiting her bedside.
