About this book

The Man, with the subtitle A Story of To-day, is by Elbert Hubbard. The contents list THREE OPEN LETTERS and chapters titled MYSELF, OURSELVES, A LITTLE LOCAL HISTORY and SOME THINGS. Further chapters are titled MARTHA HEATH and SIXTH SUNDAY, THE MAN CONTINUES THE TRUE STORY OF SHAKESPEARE.

A narrator rides out Clinton street on Saturday afternoon, April 30th, in the delightful sunshine, and a little cloud grows until it seems to cover the whole western sky. The narrator says “Aspasia Hobbs, you had better hurry up or night will catch you.” A speaker says the world is rich, surpassing rich, but, alas! men are poor. Doctor Bolus says the speaker needs cod liver oil with strong doses of quinine, yet in spite of all medicine could do, the speaker grows weaker and weaker.
