About this book
The Money Box is by W. W. Jacobs. A night-watchman says that sailormen are not good at saving money as a rule. Two men named Ginger Dick and Peter Russet tried to save their money once. Isaac Lunn, the oldest fireman aboard, is called a very steady old teetotaler. The list of illustrations includes, among others, “They Put Old Isaac’s Clothes up for Fifteen Shillings.”
Ginger tries another tack, speaking quite nicely to Isaac and taking three large cups of tea to show how he is beginning to like it. A man with a barrow of lovely plants is described as asking no money for them, only old clothes.
