About this book

Amanda M. Douglas is the author of The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, or There's No Place Like Home. The dedication describes a story of love and faith, of work and waiting, and of the gentle virtues that are none the less heroic for blooming in the centre of the home circle. Kit announces dolefully that he has run a splinter in his toe and that his trousers are torn.

Florence says, with an air of dignity, that this isn't a golden wedding, it's a birthday party. Joe was past sixteen, tall, and, though not thin, had a round, supple look and could dance a break-down to perfection. Hal used to sit and listen to the description of orange-groves, and how pine-apples and bananas grew. Hal says that everybody is good to them and recalls Mrs. Howard when he was so ill, the Kinseys while they were in Madison, and Dr. Meade, among others.
