About this book
The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity presents itself as a modern philosophy of life developed by scientific methods, in an enlarged and revised edition. The inquiry into freedom asks what it means to know the motives of one’s actions and gives attention to the person who acts because of knowledge. The argument asks whether reason, purposes, and decisions exercise the same kind of compulsion over a person as animal passions do.
The discussion of monism treats the human being as developing and asks whether that development can reach the stage of the free spirit. The account of monism rejects metaphysical restrictions of the free spirit while acknowledging the physical and historical restrictions of the person described as naïve.
