About this book

In Great Waters is by Thomas A. Janvier. Maltham stops in front of an absurd dwelling set a little back from the road, and a man watches him from one of the lower windows. Maltham answers that he began to be a resident only day before yesterday and has come to take charge of the steamers of the Sunrise Line. The Major repeats 'The Sunrise Line!' in a very eager tone and says that at an early day he will lay convincing reasons before his listener why terminal docks should be established on the Point.

A first-person narrator says that, having from the very first so loved her that quarreling with her was clean impossible, the narrator used just to stand and stare at her in her passions. A first-person narrator says that with John Heath things went differently, and that John Heath would go ugly when she flew out at him. A woman, in a first-person narrator's account, says the thought of danger was quite out of their minds and that they knew the two strongest men on Marken were at the oars.
