About this book

The Story of Leather, by Sara Ware Bassett, is dated 1927 and illustrated by C. P. Gray. Its contents list chapters titled "The Thunderbolt," "Peter Wins Another Name," "A Catastrophe" and "Two Peters and Which Won," and the text follows a boy named Peter.

In one passage Peter thinks over a poor school report in Latin and algebra and hopes his father, Mr. Coddington, has gone to ask Mr. Christopher to take his son back on the nine of Milburn High School. In another, a boy named Nat tells Peter that Mr. Coddington, "the boss himself," came to see him and asked about the accident, the rent and how long Nat had worked in the beamhouse. Nat says Peter has been taking his place at home and paying for things while Nat was sick.
