About this book

The Troll Garden and Selected Stories by Willa Cather lists the selected stories On the Divide, Eric Hermannson's Soul, The Enchanted Bluff and The Bohemian Girl. Under The Troll Garden are Flavia and Her Artists, The Sculptor's Funeral, A Death in the Desert, The Garden Lodge, The Marriage of Phaedra, A Wagner Matinee and Paul's Case. On the Divide places Canute's shanty near Rattlesnake Creek, on the side of a little draw, with the level Nebraska plain of long rust-red grass stretching north, east and south.

Canute rises when Ole comes staggering in and says quietly that he has come to see if Ole will let him marry his daughter today. Flavia gives an embarrassing share of her attention to Imogen for several days after M. Roux's departure. Paul's head is always singularly clear when his senses are deadened, and he supposes his father had heard him getting in at the window.
