About this book
The Witness is a novel by Grace Livingston Hill. The book is dedicated to Marcia Macdonald Livingston. An epigraph credited to I John 5:10 reads in part "that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself." A man lying within walls of smoke finds a Presence beside him and a Voice calling his name.
The Voice says "But I am not Stephen Marshall. Look again." Mother Marshall says that there is a pair of Grandmother Marshall's andirons up in the attic. Pat is asked for an explanation and says "He bought it," and the text adds that not one of them could have bought a church, and wouldn't have if they could.
