About this book
The Woman's Bible, by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1898, has Part I with comments on Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. A comment says that Paul, in speaking of equality as the very soul and essence of Christianity, said there is neither Jew nor Greek, neither bond nor free, neither male nor female, for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Another comment holds that some wily writer, seeing the perfect equality of man and woman in the first chapter, felt it important to effect woman's subordination in some way.
The text says that Ruth bore a son, that Naomi loved the child and shared in its care, and that the child's name was Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David. The text lists Hector and Andromache, who called upon the immortal gods to bless their child of love, and the virgin Isis with her son Horus.
