About this book
The traveller leaves a caravan and takes a guide to Zahle, where he means to remain for a few days. The description places Kerak at the foot of the Djebel Sannin, with about a hundred and fifty houses and gardens watered by a branch of the Berdoun. Zahle stands on a steep ascent in an inlet of the mountain, surrounded by vineyards, with gardens watered by the river Berdoun.
Bysan is described as a village of seventy or eighty houses whose inhabitants suffer depredations and pay a heavy tribute to the Bedouins of the Ghor. The traveller describes crossing the Jordan at a ford where companions arrived soon afterwards. The account describes the Turkmans' tents as mostly clean, with seating around a central space where a fire is kept for company and coffee.
