About this book
The narrator notices a carriage with three occupants on the way from Aleppo and finds its occupants in the room next to his at Urfa. The eldest man wears a turban, an old overcoat and Turkish trousers that are extremely baggy in the leg and tight at the ankles. The next man is described as Kurdish-looking, with a humorous twinkle in his eyes and headgear in a style affected by the northern races.
The narrator considers the initials E.B.S. on his box remarkable for someone who knew European characters and knew him as Ghulam Husain. The narrator has kept the trunk in a canvas bag ever since Diarbekr, making the trunk look like a bale of goods during travel.
