About this book
Unique Ghost Towns and Mountain Spots is by Caroline Bancroft, a third generation Coloradan who began writing her first history for The Denver Post in 1928. The author says that the places included were all true ghost towns once, and all had ghostly reminders still extant in 1960.
The author calls the formerly beautiful Lee House at Capitol City a sad and forlorn example of what can happen in only a short time, saying it was still a true mansion in 1955 and that by 1960 despoiling tourists had changed it to a horrid ruin. The text says a plan for touring the whole state and a large folded-in map of Colorado serve as introduction to the special towns and separate tours that follow. A passage says Altman was platted by Sam Altman in 1893 on the short saddle between Bull Hill and Bull Cliff and soon had a population of fifteen hundred.
