Wanted, 7 Fearless Engineers! by Frederick Orlin Tremaine says that "A great civilization's fate lay in Dick Barrow's hands as he led his courageous fellow engineers into a strange and unknown land", and that the first question asked them had been "Are you a brave man?" From where Dick Barrow sat, hundreds of men were visible on benches, some "sleeping in the morning sun after a night in the park". A man in a huge leather chair speaks with "a strange accent, that Dick didn't recognize".
A character with a soft and musical tone says "Welcome, stranger. You have come in answer to my advertisement and I will explain without wasting time." The text has the man from Jupiter, "so pleased that he almost danced", say "Gootmording" while Dick's jaw almost drops open. The city is suddenly in complete darkness, then flashes bright again "as power flowed back into the thousands of coils in the ceiling material".
