Don Letts

Don Letts moves between filmmaking, music, DJ work, and broadcasting in a career that repeatedly connects punk, reggae, and Black British culture. Culture Clash recounts his movement through London's music scenes, from the Acme Attractions shop and DJ sets at the Roxy to filming punk performers and joining Big Audio Dynamite. The book also follows his encounters with figures including Bob Marley and members of the Clash, placing personal memory beside a wider history of cultural exchange. SAF published it in 2007 as Culture Clash: Dread Meets Punk Rockers, with David Nobakht credited as coauthor and editor in bibliographic records. Letts later revisited his life in There and Black Again, extending the account through film, radio, family, and politics. His documentary The Clash: Westway to the World received a Grammy, while his BBC radio work continued the musical conversation suggested by the earlier memoir. Across these roles, Letts has worked as a participant, curator, and witness rather than from one fixed creative identity.
