Author: Doris Janzen Longacre
Doris Janzen Longacre brought together cooking, Christian ethics, and concern about global food resources in More-With-Less Cookbook. Herald Press published the original work for the Mennonite Central Committee in 1976, drawing on recipes and suggestions from Mennonite communities. Longacre was a home economist and theologian as well as an editor, and the book asks households to connect everyday meals with simplicity, stewardship, and the needs of others. MennoMedia later issued More-with-Less: A World Community Cookbook, a fortieth-anniversary edition updated with contributions from food writer Rachel Marie Stone. The recipes emphasize familiar ingredients, economical preparation, and food traditions shared across communities. Longacre also wrote Living More with Less for the Mennonite Central Committee, extending the same questions beyond the kitchen into patterns of consumption and service.
