Isa Chandra Moskowitz
A public-access cooking show in Brooklyn started it. Isa Chandra Moskowitz found nothing vegan on television, took a production class, and made the Post Punk Kitchen herself with Terry Hope Romero; it ran on Brooklyn and Manhattan cable in 2003 and 2004, then carried on as a recipe site. Vegan Brunch, from 2009, is a breakfast book that runs from pancakes and waffles through pain au chocolat to banana rabanada. Appetite for Reduction, a year later, gathers 125 lower-fat recipes portioned at roughly 200 to 400 calories, with soy-free and gluten-free variations marked. Born in Brooklyn in 1973, Moskowitz co-wrote Veganomicon and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World with Romero, and ran the Modern Love restaurants in Omaha and in Brooklyn, both since closed.
