Montagu Don

Montagu Don, known professionally as Monty Don, is a British gardener, writer, and broadcaster whose work connects horticultural technique with daily life. Down to Earth: Gardening Wisdom distills lessons drawn from decades of making gardens, presenting them through short discussions of soil, seasons, design, wildlife, tools, and individual plants. DK publishes the book as practical guidance shaped by experience rather than a rigid set of rules. Don has led the BBC's Gardeners' World since 2003, filming from his Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow, and previously served as the Observer's gardening editor. His books range from personal accounts of home gardening to journeys through gardens in Britain and abroad. In Down to Earth: Gardening Wisdom, that broad career becomes advice for readers working at many scales. Don emphasizes observation and adaptation, encouraging gardeners to understand their own ground, climate, resources, and priorities before copying a finished style.
