About this book

Two centuries of enforced separation have made the Eastern Hemisphere an unknown world to the people of Pan-America. Jefferson Turck, a young naval lieutenant, describes a society whose maps, histories and laws keep that world beyond reach. He commands the Coldwater, a vessel built to travel through air and water, on patrol along the forbidden boundary. A failed generator interrupts the routine and exposes the weaknesses of his aging craft.

The account later places Turck near the gates of London, bound and facing a lion. Victory brings his weapons and cuts him free, turning an apparent last moment into a shared struggle for safety. This first-person science fiction adventure combines imagined naval technology with a future landscape where familiar places have become strange. Its appeal lies in the friction between official certainty and direct experience, and in the practical dangers that make an unknown world more than a blank space on a map.
