The game was stud, with seven at the table, which makes for good poker, and outside of Nick, who banked the game, nobody looked familiar. The headnote says that the Psi Lodge had their ways and means of applying pressure, when pressure was needed, but that the peculiar talent this fellow showed was one that even they'd never heard of.
The narrator tells Shari he does not lose and does not intend to, and Shari asks what his trick is: whether he stacks the deck with telekinesis, or precognition tells him what is about to be dealt. The narrator says it sure wasn't PC and offers to show Shari how the card trick was worked, and Shari answers that it will be at the lab and she will be there in ten minutes.
