The story asks what it takes to catch a psi-gifted thief. A narrator, addressed as Lefty, calls a snake the most artful hallucination he has experienced, yet says it has weight, a cold feel and a scratchy scaliness. The narrator says it had no fangs, adds that he is still sold, and says he will go to Nevada.
The narrator mentions TK surgery at Memorial Hospital and a cross-roader with plenty of TK who was stealing the Sky Hi Club's casino blind. A man named Peno Rose snarls that half of this joint is his, and that his half is hiring the narrator. A character's heart stopped, and the narrator lifted the main coronary muscle and started a ragged pumping, maybe forty beats a minute.
