Maida Westabrook travels from Marblehead to Boston in a big, shining automobile with her father, her physician Dr. Pierce, and her friend Billy Potter. Dr. Pierce points out a wooden primary school that he says cannot last many years, though he will hate to see it go. Maida notices a little shop opposite the court and calls the place darling.
The speaker facing Arthur thinks carefully before speaking, having always been reasoned with by her father, doctors, nurses, and Granny. The warning about stealing says the speaker would rather give away anything in the shop than have the listener steal it.
