About this book

Pretty Michal is a free translation by R. N. Bain. The contents promise, among others, a chapter showing how sagely the Rev. Master Fröhlich brought up his motherless daughter, pretty Michal. The contents promise, among others, a chapter that shows clearly that he who tends the sheep is much more honorable than he who slaughters them.

The text names Henry Catsrider, a very curious name, and says no one could vie with Catsrider in wrestling except a young Calvinist from Kassa called Valentine Kalondai. A report says Catsrider, instead of taking his Michal to the parsonage, remained in his father's house, where they had treated Michal very cruelly. Poor Valentine asks what he shall do, and Simplex tells him that he must carry off his beloved from the place at once. Henry Catsrider has the scaffold reërected, and Valentine can see it from the cloister window.
