About this book
State of the Union Addresses of John Quincy Adams collects addresses dated December 6, 1825, December 5, 1826, December 4, 1827 and December 2, 1828. The address dated December 6, 1825 is addressed to the Fellow Citizens of the Senate and of the House of Representatives and names as its first sentiment gratitude to the Omnipotent Disposer of All Good for the continuance of the signal blessings of His providence. An address says the Republic of Colombia has made satisfaction for well-established claims, and that the negotiation of similar treaties with all of the independent South American States has been contemplated and may yet be accomplished.
An address reports that squadrons have continued to be maintained in the Pacific Ocean, in the West India seas, and in the Mediterranean, and that the piracies with which the West India seas were for several years infested have been totally suppressed. An address mentions the Atlantic coast, from Rhode Island to Louisiana, and says the aggregate expenditure of the year has fallen little short of $1,000,000.
