About this book
The Eldest Son is a play by John Galsworthy, and its persons include Sir William Cheshire, a baronet, and Lady Cheshire, his wife. The list of persons names Bill as the eldest son and Harold as the second son.
Freda says the under-keeper, Dunning, won't marry Rose Taylor, after all. A character says Sir William will never keep a servant who has made a scandal in the village. Bill turns and confronts his mother with the words "Don't say anything against her!" Old Studdenham, the head-keeper, says he has been in Sir William's service five and twenty years, but that this is man to man.
