About this book

The Fugitive is a play in four acts by John Galsworthy. The list of persons names George Dedmond, a civilian, his wife Clare, his father General Sir Charles Dedmond, his mother Lady Dedmond and Clare's brother Reginald Huntingdon, as well as a solicitor, a tobacconist and a writer named Malise with his caretaker Mrs. Miler.

George says that what he can't stand is being made a fool of before other people, and that Clare appears to have asked that fellow Malise for music. Malise urges Clare to use him and get free somehow, and Clare tells Mr. Malise that she cannot take when she is not giving. Clare says that this day last year, the first of June, she broke covert, and that she has been running ever since; a young man replies that he does not understand a bit.
