About this book
The Philosophy of Disenchantment is a work by Edgar Saltus. The contents list names chapters, among others, The Genesis of Disenchantment, The High Priest of Pessimism and The Sphinx's Riddle. The text says the teaching of Leibnitz slowly disappeared, and that though a certain amount of optimism necessarily subsisted, the tendency of thought veered to the opposite direction.
Fichte, Kant's immediate successor, is said to have declared, in direct contradiction to Leibnitz, that this world was the worst one possible. The text says that Schopenhauer, as a practical man, saw nothing that could make his ink blush in repeatedly recommending the preservation of a fortune, made or inherited.
