About this book
The Sicilian Bandit is taken from the volume Captain Paul by Alexandre Dumas. The contents list chapters called The Fatal Bridal, The Prince and the Bandit, The Robber's Castle and Death of the Bandit. The countess says "Oh, what a delightful place Palermo is!" and Teresa adds that it is especially so when one is two-and-twenty years of age, and rich and beautiful.
The text explains, for readers who wish to know how Pascal Bruno was not killed by the discharge of Tommassi's carbine, that it is probable the bandit took the precaution of removing the bullet from the carbine, while Paolo Tommassi always considered it a much simpler explanation to attribute it to magic. The White Penitents chant the dirge of death at the head of the procession and the Black Penitents in the rear, and a mute population joins as the culprit advances along the Rue de Toledo towards the Place de la Marine.
