The story of Crisco

The Story of Crisco is by Marion Harris Neil, and its contents list includes Soups, Fish, Meats, Vegetables, Salads, Puddings, Breads, Cakes, Eggs and Candies. The text says Crisco is made in a building devoted exclusively to the manufacture of this one product, in sparkling bright rooms where cleanly uniformed employees make and pack Crisco. The text states that Crisco is absolutely all vegetable and that no stearine, animal or vegetable, is added.

A recipe for Spanish Rice calls for 1/2 cup Crisco, 1/2 cupful grated cheese, 6 tablespoonfuls rice, 1 can tomatoes, 5 small onions, 1 cupful hot water and 1/4 cupful chopped olives, with salt and red pepper to taste. A pudding recipe says to repeat the process every 1/2 hour, or oftener if pudding browns too fast, till 5 pints are used, and to let it bake till done, 6 hours in all. A menu for November 13 lists Lamb Cutlets, Potatoes, Curried Lima Beans, Tomato Salad, Cheese Fritters, Benedictine Jelly and Coffee.
