About this book

The Wisdom of Cyclops by W. C. Tuttle is told in the first person by someone who came to work for the Cross J. The text says Cyclops cocks his head on one side, and squints at the old man, with his one optic. The text says the bird gets cocky and opines to lick a pet coyote, with the result that he loses one eye and gains the cognomen of Cyclops.

The text says Muley was Cyclops’s tutor, who catches the magpie when it was young and unsophisticated and opines to teach it to talk. A man called “Old Testament” Tilton comes along and notifies Muley that it ain’t noways Christian-like to teach a young magpie to swear. A character named Chuck whispers that he is a detective and that Mister Peck is a sheriff.
