Ala Barzinji

Ala Barzinji is a Kurdish author and photographer who uses recipes to document regional food knowledge and cultural memory. Traditional Kurdish Food: An Insight into Kurdish Culinary Heritage brings Kurdish cooking into an English-language volume organized across eight recipe categories. Published in 2015, the book pairs instructions with colour photography and explains a cuisine shaped by fresh ingredients, herbs, spices, hospitality, and local variation. Barzinji was born in southern Kurdistan and has lived in Britain since 1995. Her technical education in mathematics and computing sits beside interests in gardening and photography, while the book’s careful presentation turns household practice into an accessible record of Kurdish culinary heritage.
