Allison Arévalo

Allison Arévalo is a chef, restaurateur, and food writer whose recipes emphasize generous, practical meals for families and groups. She co-founded Homeroom in Oakland, California, building a restaurant menu around inventive versions of macaroni and cheese. The Mac + Cheese Cookbook, written with fellow Homeroom co-founder Erin Wade, translates that experience into a 128-page Ten Speed Press collection published in 2013. It begins with guidance on sauces, noodles, cheeses, toppings, and add-ins, then moves through familiar, international, vegetable-forward, and vegan variations. Side dishes and desserts extend the book beyond its central comfort food. Arévalo later wrote The Pasta Friday Cookbook, drawing on the weekly pasta dinners she began for friends and neighbors after moving to Brooklyn.
