Chantal Gadoury
Chantal Gadoury reimagines folklore through American fantasy and romance, often revisiting familiar fairy tales, legends, and seasonal stories. Based in Pennsylvania, she has written retellings drawing on Beauty and the Beast, Hades and Persephone, and other enduring narratives. Winterdream recasts The Nutcracker in an Imperial Russian setting, following Clara as a Christmas gathering opens into an enchanted conflict involving the Winter Court. Its 2018 release became part of Gadoury's wider collection of fairy-tale-inspired fiction. Her bibliography also includes Allerleirauh, Between the Sea and Stars, and The Songs in Our Hearts, showing a range from historical fantasy to contemporary romance. Author interviews describe an early interest in storytelling and a continuing attraction to folklore, while catalog records classify Winterdream as a Nutcracker retelling. Gadoury's work is distinguished by its use of recognisable story structures as foundations for expanded protagonists, invented courts, and emotionally focused fantasy worlds.
