Daniel Torday moves between literary fiction, social satire, and questions of belief, inheritance, and generational power. He is chair and professor of creative writing at Bryn Mawr College, and his novella The Sensualist won the National Jewish Book Award for debut fiction. Boomer1 follows musician and writer Mark Brumfeld alongside Cassie Black and Mark's mother, Julia, using music, work, and an online anti-boomer campaign to examine resentment between generations. St. Martin's Press first published Boomer1 in 2018; the cited Picador edition followed in 2019, and Kirkus Reviews included the novel among its best books of 2018. The 12th Commandment, released by St. Martin's Press in 2023, brings magazine writer Zeke Leger to rural Ohio, where his reporting draws him into an isolated religious community and a closed criminal case. The two novels share an interest in private frustrations becoming public movements, but they create that pressure through different settings and narrative forms.
