Danny Meyer is a New York restaurateur and the founder of Union Square Hospitality Group, known for linking food with attentive hospitality. He opened Union Square Cafe in 1985 and later worked with the restaurant's chef, Michael Romano, on The Union Square Cafe Cookbook. HarperCollins first published their collaboration in 1994. The book adapts restaurant dishes for home kitchens while preserving the cafe's emphasis on seasonal ingredients, clear preparation, and generous service. Recipes range from soups and pastas to seafood, meat, desserts, and the restaurant's familiar bar nuts. Meyer contributes the owner's perspective, while Romano brings the working methods of a professional kitchen; together they explain both flavor and organization. Later reprints have kept the cookbook in circulation, including a 2013 Ecco edition. The Union Square Cafe Cookbook is therefore not a solo celebrity collection, but a documented partnership between a restaurateur and chef built from the practices of one influential New York dining room.
