Author: Maurice Grenville Kains
Maurice Grenville Kains joined practical horticulture to teaching, editing and agricultural writing. Before his 1914 appointment as professor and head of horticulture at Pennsylvania State College, he edited American Agriculturist. Plant propagation was one of his specialities. Orange Judd published Culinary Herbs in 1912. The book explains how to grow, harvest, preserve and use familiar herbs, moving from garden practice to their place in the kitchen. Kains also wrote on home fruit growing, plant propagation and small-farm management. His books reflect a career spent translating specialist knowledge into instructions that gardeners and growers could use directly.
