Rex Brown
Rex Brown played bass in Pantera from 1982 until the band split in 2003, and joined Down in 1998, remaining with that group until 2011. On Pantera records he was first billed as Rex Rocker; in 2011 he also started Kill Devil Hill with drummer Vinny Appice. Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story of Pantera, written with Mark Eglinton and published by Da Capo Press in 2013, covers Brown's years in the band and the guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was killed onstage in December 2004. Dug Pinnick of King's X supplied the foreword, and passages come from Brown's sister, original Pantera vocalist Terry Glaze, producer Terry Date and former managers. Brown criticised the book in 2017, saying material had gone in that was never intended for publication and that he had been through ten edits; Eglinton answered in 2020 that Brown had approved it. Brown sang and played guitar on his solo album Smoke on This..., released in July 2017.
