Stephen LaBerge
LaBerge took a doctorate in psychophysiology at Stanford and turned lucid dreaming from an anecdote into a laboratory subject, by having sleeping volunteers signal out of a dream with prearranged eye movements that the recording equipment could catch while the rest of the body stayed paralysed. That experiment settled whether the state exists at all. Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming is the practical book that came from it. He sells a supplement and runs paid workshops, which is the commercial side to hold alongside the research.
