About this book

Christopher and the Clockmakers is by Sara Ware Bassett, with illustrations by William F. Stecher. It is dedicated to the memory of Richard Parsons, Simon Willard and John Bailey, a trio of conscientious craftsmen whose handiwork still survives them. The contents list chapters such as Christopher Makes an Acquaintance, An Encounter with the Police and Clocks That Were Good as Plays.

In one passage Christopher and his father, Mr. Burton, talk about his going to the store, and Mr. Burton says valuable packages are rarely entrusted to boys. In another, a grimy letter postmarked Chicago is addressed to Mr. Burton's son, care of Burton and Norcross, Jewellers, New York City, and a messenger hands it to Christopher in the lamp department. In another, a man talks about cheap watches and names the Ingersoll.
