Mother Hubbard, Her Picture Book is by Walter Crane and contains Mother Hubbard, The Three Bears and The Absurd A.B.C. The preface says this is Mother Hubbard’s Picture Book, and that it’s rather bearish, too, for there are no less than three bears in it. The preface says there’s Apple pie, to the writer’s certain knowledge, and “victuals and drink” of sorts, as well.
A rhyme tells of Old Mother Hubbard who went to the cupboard to get her poor Dog a bone; but when she came there the cupboard was bare, and so the poor Dog had none. A rhyme in the book has Father growl “Who’s touched my soup?”, Mother ask the same in a thinner voice, and little Cub say “But mine is finished up!” A verse names Silverlocks, who in sudden terror flying reached home, and a Nurse who says “You are in luck.”
