About this book
"The Peaches of New York" is by U. P. Hedrick, assisted by G. H. Howe, O. M. Taylor and C. B. Tubergen. It forms Part II of the report of the New York Agricultural Experiment Station at Geneva for 1916, and the letter of transmittal is dated January 31, 1917. That letter calls it the fifth in a series of fruit publications and says peach-growing is an important industry in the State of New York.
One section follows the peach through Asia, with China as its probable home, and notes that Japan lists ninety-five peaches and two nectarines. Another reports a count of 252 young trees, 189 with red leaves and 63 with green. The variety descriptions record tree, leaf, flower, fruit and stone, as in the entry for the Markham, a Chili seedling raised about 1880 by W. D. Markham of Hart, Michigan.
